Season 2010/2011 :: IAFA CUP2011

On Saturday, August 6, International Amateur Football Association officially closed season 2010/2011. The annual IAFA Summer Cup 2011 brought together 20 strongest teams from different divisions. By the way some teams such as Ataka, Serbia, Ugra had to make a couple of hundred miles trip to reach Sokolniki.

Team Ataka became as the biggest surprise of the tournament. They managed to reach semifinal where they were beaten by later winners Evrofarmsport 1-0. Ataka's goalkeeper was nominated as the best one. Evrofarmsport defeated Tehnopul in the final 1-0.

Special guest – legendary Italian forward, winner of "Golden Boot" and "Golden Ball" Salvatore Schillaci would later say: "I went to a tournament expecting to see an amateur football but the reality really surprised me. I saw so many guys whose football playing skills and level was very high. Even more they are professionals. It is a pity but I have to admit that I am too old for such a high level tournament. I would like to thank the president of IAFA Mr. Armen Barkhudaryan for inviting me, also my deep respect to all the participants and organizers."

Salvatore Schillaci appeared on the field a couple of times. Obviously the speed is not the same as 20 years ago, but the ball control, passing quality is still on world class level. Signor Salvatore was the main figure in the closing ceremony. Everyone could have some chat with him and photographed.

Season 2010/2011 is over. It took more than 5 hours to find out the winner of the last tournament in this season. There is only a couple months left until next season and we look forward to seeing you all again.
